Based in London&rsquo;s Design District in the heart of North Greenwich, we are home to a diverse, global community in one of the world&rsquo;s most vibrant business and creative hubs.</p><p><strong>The Role</strong></p><p>We are looking for a Technical Tutor in Digital Photography to join our team.</p><p id="isPasted">Working within the Technical Services department this role provides excellent technical tuition across the BA and MA/MFA Digital Photography courses as well as photography support for the wider University. They will take ownership of the photography studios and equipment to ensure that they are maintained to a high standard and provide facilities that are functional, accessible and well presented.</p><p>Technical tuition can take a variety of forms such as technical classes, workshops, skills training sessions and 1-2-1 tuition. Although not responsible for the curriculum, they will draw on their expertise to collaborate with the relevant academic team on it.</p><p><strong>The Candidate</strong></p><p id="isPasted">The ideal candidate has a strong background in digital photography with extensive experience with a range of cameras, lenses and lighting equipment. They will have skills that enable them to support students shooting in the studio and advise on external shoots. Based in London&rsquo;s Design District in the heart of North Greenwich, we are home to a diverse, global community in one of the world&rsquo;s most vibrant business and creative hubs.</p><p><strong>Background</strong></p><p id="isPasted">Our prototyping workshop supports several creative courses across the university, including Product Design, Architecture, Graphic Design, User-Experience and User-Interface Design, and Fashion. Students can access a wide range of equipment and techniques from woodworking and casting through to digital fabrication including 3D printing, laser cutting and CNC machining.</p><p>We are looking for a safety-focused and skilled Workshop Technician to supervise and support the running of our workshop throughout weekday evenings and Saturdays.</p><p>Please note: this is a part-time role involving working weekday evenings and Saturdays during term-times only, usually:</p><ul><li>Weeks 1-6 of Semester 1 (Sep-Oct): alternating between 2-3 evenings per week</li><li>Weeks 7-12 of Semester 1 (Oct-Dec): alternating between 2-3 evenings per week, plus every second Saturday</li><li>Weeks 1-6 of Semester 2 (Jan-Feb): alternating between 2-3 evenings per week</li><li>Weeks 7 of Semester 2 to Annual Student Showcase (Feb&ndash;Jun): alternating between 2-3 evenings per week, plus every second Saturday</li></ul><p><strong>The Role &amp; Candidate</strong></p><p id="isPasted">You will have hands-on expertise across digital and analogue prototyping and fabrication techniques, with confidence in a wide range of workshop-based equipment and materials.</p><p>Safety oversight is crucial to this role. You must be confident being solely responsible for the workshop during our extended opening hours. This involves supervising and instructing several students using a range of tools and machinery simultaneously and, crucially, being firm and consistent in ensuring they follow strict safety and PPE requirements.</p><p>Meanwhile, you will strive to provide an excellent student experience, with a compassionate and positive approach that creates a welcoming and supportive learning environment for students.</p><p>You will also play a key role in maintaining in a hygienic, organised and well-presented workshop, taking pride in your working environment and bringing a strong sense of professionalism and healthy perfectionism to the role.</p><p>This role would especially suit someone with a daytime practice who is looking for additional work. You should be excited and motivated to pick up complimentary skills and processes as our facilities and curriculum evolve.</p><p>Passing on strong and current garment construction and fashion technologies skills to your students is a key aspect of what you do. You&rsquo;ll also be driven to support the success of your students, the course, and the university as a whole in dynamic ways &ndash; including directly sewing garments and prototypes for exhibitions, competitions and marketing campaigns and collaborating with industry partners as part of our learning with industry strategy.</p><p>You take pride in all aspects of your work and bring a strong sense of professionalism and healthy perfectionism to your role. Our current digital knitting machine brand is Stoll, but those with experience in comparable systems (e.g. Shima Seiki) are encouraged to apply. Please highlight this in your application.</p><p><strong>The Role &amp; Candidate</strong></p><p>You bring hands-on expertise with both digital and analogue knitting, confidently programming and operating digital knitting machines alongside analogue equipment such as Dubied and domestic knitting machines. You are equally driven to extend that expertise more widely into surface embellishment, from digital embroidery to large-format textile printing, picking up complimentary skills and processes as our facilities and curriculum evolve.</p><p>Technical skills teaching and student support is at the core of what you do, though you will also be equally invested in the course and university&#39;s wider success - producing pieces for exhibitions, competition entries and marketing campaigns, and collaborating with industry partners as part of our learning with industry strategy.</p><p>You take pride in all aspects of your work and bring a strong sense of professionalism and healthy perfectionism to your role.
