The Role

The role of Health, Safety and Environmental Manager is part of the Estates and Facilities function.   We are looking for a skilled and experienced individual who is self-motivated to ensure robust and appropriate health and safety policies and operating procedures are developed.  Ensure incident reporting and opportunities to learn and identify future risk mitigation options are embedded proactively within a process of continuous review and improvement.  Provide personal leadership and demonstration to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture within the University campus buildings.  To lead on the development and integration of universities carbon reduction commitments, and carbon management plan and the ability to integrate environmental considerations into operational activities.

The Candidate

You will have a relevant health and safety qualification, extensive knowledge and experience of working in a health and safety role in a similar environment and relevant knowledge of legislation.  Demonstrable experience of report writing including the collation and presentation of primary data, maintaining and updating health and safety policies and procedures. Proven knowledge in the operation of health and safety, experience of conducting risk assessments, safety inspections and audits.  

Works collaboratively with colleagues across the University, teams such as Academics, Technical Services, Learning Resources, and Professional service teams to promote a and implement a positive health and safety culture.  To fulfil responsibilities to co-ordinate the Universities Emergency Response and Business Continuity Plans.  Responsibility for the oversight of the University Fire Strategy and procedures.   A good team player who is well organised and capable of managing a wide and varied workload.
