Role Overview: Ravensbourne University London is committed to developing its enterprise data assets, expertise, and governance.  We are looking for an  Information Governance Officer to lead this work, reporting to the Chief Information Officer, ensuring legal compliance with relevant data protection legislation (including but not limited to UK GDPR, PCI-DSS and OfS requirements) driving improvements in compliance through our systems, frameworks, policies, and standards. The successful candidate will support and operate in conjunction with university leadership, data owners and data stewards whilst contributing to strategic initiatives to promote the benefits of a data-enabled culture within the University. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain information governance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations, including GDPR.
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate information governance risks.
  • Provide training and support to staff on information governance best practices.
  • Collaborate across the University to ensure data accuracy, integrity and security
  • The ability to review and draft Data Sharing and Processing Agreements and data protection clauses in other contracts.
  • Advise the CIO and Executive team on developments in information governance and data protection laws.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, IT, Law, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in information governance, data protection, or a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of GDPR and other relevant data protection regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional certifications in information governance or data protection are desirable.
